SwiNOG #40, held on June 24 on Bern’s Gurten, marked a significant milestone: the 25th anniversary of the Swiss Network Operators Group. This special edition brought together engineers, operators, researchers, and network enthusiasts from across Switzerland and beyond for a day of technical exchange, community building, and forward-looking discussions.

A strong agenda with technical depth

The program offered a rich mix of topics, ranging from practical network automation to cutting-edge optical transport technologies and the latest developments in peering and interconnection. Presentations included insights into disaggregated networking with Infrahub and Terraform, explorations of network reliability up to 800G, and practical approaches to chaos engineering and security monitoring.

Speakers were praised for delivering concise, high-quality content that was both accessible and technically profound. The strong lineup reflected SwiNOG’s reputation as a community-driven event that successfully balances practical operational issues with visionary topics.

A vibrant community atmosphere

One of the true highlights of SwiNOG #40 was the sense of community. Many participants described it as a rare opportunity to reconnect with long-time colleagues and finally meet contacts in person who had previously only been known virtually. This sense of belonging and shared purpose is a defining feature of SwiNOG and remains one of its strongest assets.

The anniversary was celebrated in a relaxed yet focused environment, supported by excellent organization and the stunning panoramic views from the Gurten. The event demonstrated once again that technical expertise and community spirit can go hand in hand to create a memorable experience.

Presentations and videos now available

For those who missed the event or would like to revisit the talks, the presentations and recorded videos are now published on the SwiNOG website. This makes it possible for an even wider audience to benefit from the knowledge and discussions shared during the event.

As SwiNOG looks towards the future and begins preparations for its next meeting, one thing is clear: the Swiss networking community is not only active but also growing stronger and more connected with each passing year.

A big thank you to the speakers, sponsors, organizers, and every participant who contributed to making SwiNOG #40 such a successful and inspiring event. We look forward to seeing what the next 25 years will bring.
